We only post cars designed to connect drivers to the road. A couple of other mandatories: The cars almost always feature a manual gearbox and have been owned by a fellow car enthusiast. You won’t find any SUVs here, unless it’s that one, sick, Macan GTS that blew past us at Newcomb’s the other morning.

Here’s a list of what you can expect to see at Built for Backroads, but we’re always looking to expand our consideration set.

The same places you do. From classifieds to forums, we constantly scout driver-focused cars for sale. Sometimes it’s for ourselves, maybe for a friend, always for a good reason, even if it’s just to check out a rad new build. (We know you do that, too. Fist bump.) We get car leads from good friends who message us with their great finds, or from a new canyon buddy who connects with us on Instagram. We also receive submissions through the site, which you are welcome to do. We look at each one, and share it when it meets the Built for Backroads ethos.

Anyone, aka, you. Submit a car if you’re the seller, you have a friend who’s selling, or you just found an awesome car for sale online and want to make sure your official unofficial tribe knows about it. We’ll just need some basic info about the car, and we will post it on the site if it’s Built for Backroads.

Nope. We don’t ask for or receive any fees or compensation to put cars on our site. We just want to grow this vagabond of car fans and see more of you on the backroads. And when we do, a quick thumbs-up is all the payment we need. Peace signs and headlight flashes also accepted.

Built for Backroads was created in 2019 by car buddies Kyle and Paul. They met in 2010 and became fast friends. Kyle is the designer and Subaru fanatic, while Paul is the developer and a BMW buff.
